  • Well done Stuart!

You may recognise one of the authors of this anthology of short stories selected by Stephen King... ;-) Big well done to long standing staff member Stuart! http://stephenkingbooks.co.uk/2016/07/01/six-scary-stories/

  • Honey modelling our lurcher muzzles

Thanks to Joanna for sending us these pictures of her beautiful lurcher Honey modelling one of our lurcher muzzles =) She says, "She has a small head for her body so I was worried about it fitting but it has been absolutely fine." (All proceeds from sales of our sighthound muzzles are donated to Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary, who rescue and find homes for homeless greyhounds and lurchers in Scotland.)

  • Wow - what a collection!

Wow! You guys have done it again!! Look at this fantastic pile of goodies you've handed in to donate to Any Dog'il Do Rescue =) They are being collected by one of their volunteers later today. It's always heart warming to see the generosity of our customers with these charity collections <3 Don't worry if you've missed this month's collection - Next month's one will be for Animal Rescue Crew - ARC.

  • Join Our Team

    *** We are hiring! ***

Would you like to join the Just Dogs Team?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and outgoing Part Time Team Member to work on Saturdays and Sundays in our Stockbridge shop. We are either looking for one person for both days, or perhaps one person for each day. We are initially offering 7.5 hours for the Saturday shift and 4.5hrs for the Sunday but opportunities for extra hours during busier periods and for holiday cover will be likely.

We are a specialist shop and customer service for our two and four legged customers is extremely important to us, so you must enjoy dealing with people and animals alike and have a friendly, cheery disposition. Heavy lifting can be required (we sell big bags of dog food!) and we are very busy so comfy shoes are another must. Lots of contact with doggies is obviously a big part of the job but there are still lots of retail related tasks requiring attention (although we would love to we can't just cuddle dogs all day long!).

  • Pippin

We had a lovely visit from *newly adopted* Pippin on Saturday, who was in getting fitted for a harness. Wee Pippin was a wee bit nervous and overwhelmed at first but we quickly won her round with treats =) Pippin is a puppy mill rescue who was fostered for Many Tears Animal Rescue by one of our customers here in Edinburgh so it's heart warming to see her finally with a home of her own, and a fabulous one at that <3

  • Is your dog food motivated?

Here at Just Dogs we strongly promote reward based training but understand that for some dogs it can be tricky to find the right treat to motivate them, with some dogs being more fussy / less 'food motivated' than others. This article from Eileenanddogs helps explain why some dogs may seem less keen to take / work for treats than others and gives helpful tips for using food in training: http://eileenanddogs.com/2016/06/14/dog-isnt-food-motivated/ Our top recommendations for high value training treats are: Natures Menu Treats (our longstanding best seller), chopped liver, chopped sausages, chopped Meat N TrEat, liver paste, and dried sprats. What's your dog's favourite training treat? Is there anything you've found especially motivating to reward them with?
