The old classic - pigs ears are still a  best selling dog treat in our Edinburgh Store.

Naturally Better quality air dried treats are 100% natural and suitable as a treat, reward or training aid for your dog. Always ensure there is a bowl of clean, fresh water available when feeding and supervision of your pet is recommended, preferably in a stain resistant area.We have recently swapped to Naturally Better from Hollings Ears as we have found them to be bigger and better quality whilst at a more competitive pricing (how could we argue with that!). Hollings recently put their prices up to RRP £58.27 per 50 and we felt that was just too steep so we got our research hats on for the same quality at better prices. You will likely notice the price of ears is going up with every supplier though as demand is outstripping demand, especially as in some countries Pigs ears are now classed as a delicacy! Don't forget there are other ears available as an alternative including Cows Ears (these are a less expensive and less greasy alternative to Pigs Ears).

Naturally Better Pigs Ears are of the highest standard, trimmed, dried, bacteria tested and quality checked. Please note always supervise your dog when they are chewing.

The oil in Pigs Ears can help keep a shine to coat but it also means that they are not healthiest treat and should be given in moderation.

Please be aware that to keep the costs down we buy these ears in bulk and so we have to repackage to send to you (these do not come boxed as per the Hollings Ears Pigs ears are available to purchase individually or make a saving and buy 9 to get the 10th free.

In the shop there is much discussion regarding what is appropriate and safe to give your dog as a chew.  We don’t believe that there is a black and white answer to this one but thought it would be handy to provide a guide to some of the most discussed items we provide in the shop and their pros and cons to allow our customers to make a balanced and informed choice about what they give to their dogs.

With regards pizzles/bully sticks (or similar chew products such as pigs ears)...

Pizzles (sometimes called Bully Sticks) are Bulls' Penis parts (sorry no nice way of saying it).  They are a 100% natural alternative to rawhide chews. They are lower in fat, high in protein and fully digestible.

To Chews: They are often described as a safer alternative to rawhide for puppies as they are generally easier to digest  (although we do still recommend that you supervise when they are being eaten).  Bulls' Pizzles can aid in keeping gums healthy, removing tartar and can help clean teeth if used regularly. As always though we do like to remind dog owners that nothing beats teeth brushing.

Not to Chews:  Whilst Bulls' Pizzles are unlikely to cause a tooth fracture they can still present a choking hazard and we would always recommend supervising and not giving them to a “gulper”.

Some detractors from Pizzles (or other natural dried animal products) argue that with them being a natural product they can contain bacteria.  It is true that there would be a risk of bacteria on a Pizzle but dogs' digestion is very different to our own and they tend to be able to cope with this better than we would (as also argued by raw feeders).
