Just Dogs Recommends......
We have tried to be as helpful and honest as possible with these Recommendations and will update them as regularly as possible. If you have any further suggestions or feedback regarding those featured we would love to hear from you!
Dog Walkers/sitters
We are very often asked by our customers for recommendations for dog walkers/sitters in the Edinburgh area. We have pulled this list together based on dog walkers we have developed relationships with and who share our ethos of positive reinforcement and sensible socialization and controlled numbers of dogs being walked. Some of those on the list are also ones that are regularly recommended by customers of ours (we may not have actually met these dog walkers and we will mention this). Whilst these contacts are recommended we cannot accept responsibility for the content of their sites and we recommend you do your own research too to ensure that whoever you choose is right for you.
Please be aware that most dog walkers sitters will only accept neutered dogs.
Also be aware that the best dog walkers/sitters book up far in advance for dog sitting over the busy holiday period so make sure you book in advance to avoid disappointment
If you think we have forgotten someone we shouldn't have please let us know as sometimes our brains just can't absorb all the recommendations we should!

Annette from the Dashing White Rabbit Company has a number of customers who frequent Just Dogs and speak very highly of her. We know Annette too and can vouch for her as being a true dog lover. She generally covers the Stockbridge and New Town area of Edinburgh. Annette is very busy though so make sure you give plenty of notice if you want to make booking. |

Karen from K-9-2-5 also comes very highly recommended by a number of our customers and we have met Karen too and agree. Karen covers the East Side of Edinburgh (including Stockbridge) |

Citidogs Creche based out in Colinton is Edinburghs biggest Dog Day Care Centre. If you have a sociable dog who likes the company of other dogs and who needs company for the best part of the day this could be the option for you. Citidogs cover the Stockbridge area and also do a Bark n Ride pick up and drop off service and they have a lovely team . Lots of our customers doggies frequent Citidogs |

Waggy Walks Edinburgh owned run by Lorraine Murtagh comes highly recommended by a number of our customers. Lorraine oftens visits the shop and is a true dog lover and the dogs love her. Lorraine only walks small numbers of dogs and is competitively priced. |
|
Dogmore Daycare when I originally put up my recommended links I hadn't included Dogmore. A number of customers have been quick to ask me to make sure I have added them to the list based on their happy recommendations. |
DOG TRAINERS/TRAINING CLASSES
At Just Dogs we are strong believers in adopting positive techniques when dog training and we advocate these sort of techniques if you visit the shop. We appreciate that this is a personal choice for owners and everyone has their own views and we respect this. All the trainers we have listed below though are also advocates of positive training techqniues. As with our dog walker recommendations some of these trainers are ones we know of personally and others are those that come highly recommended and we would encourage you to do your own research to ensure the trainers and their techniques are right for you and your dog.
If you think we have forgotten someone we shouldn't have please let us know as sometimes our brains just can't absorb all the recommendations we should!

Lynn the Dog Lady is based in Edinburgh and runs puppy and adult dog classes in Portobello on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Lynn is also available for 1-2-1 sessions. Lynn classes are usually quite busy so may not be for everyone but they do offer a great opportunity to socialize your dog. The classes also book up quite quickly so advanced booking is recommended. Lynn is available on 0131 669 1108. Lynn is well qualified and part of the APDT and BIPDT. |

Action4Dogs run by Max Muir is based out near Gorebridge in Mid Lothian but we have lots of central Edinburgh customers who travel out to train with him because he has a great reputation. He also often organizes seminars and workshops with world renowned trainers/behaviourists! Max offers training classes and 1-2-1s and has a very comprehensive website |
|
Darcregan Dog School run by Yvonne Walker comes very highly recommended but she is VERY busy! Yvonne is an associate of the acclaimed John Rogerson and is a fellow of the Canine Behaviour Institute. Yvonne runs Kennel Club Standard Classes and also does a variety of dog sports and 1-2-1 sessions. Yvonne's classes are run in Corstorphine and Gorebridge. Her classes fill up extremely quickly so book well in advance! |

Train Your Dogs with Heather Smith! I am a huge fan of Heather and this is a personal recommendation. Although most of her classes and workshops are on the West side of Scotland they are well worth the journey! Heathers classes are kept small so you get lots of support and for people who have more reactive dogs (as I do) it makes it a less stressful environment. If you are interested in trying Doggy Dancing you couldn't get a better teacher than Heather, she is a top Judge and Competitor on the circuit including Crufts. Heather also does 1-2-1 sessions. |

Joanne Drysdale Dog Behaviour Consultant offers 1- 2- 1 behavioural consulations and training sessions across the Edinburgh and Lothians. Joanne is a provisional member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors and is studying towards a Degree in Canine Behaviour and Training. We know Jo and her dogs and agree with her Science based, positive approach to dog training. Her consultations are very well structured and reasonably priced and she also has a very comprehensive, useful website. Jo has supported Just Dogs with drop in sessions and Workshops. Jo now also runs very popular Training Classes in Juniper Green and having helped out at them we can confirm they are very well run. |
|
Mark Walker Dog Training (Canine Solutions) is another personal recommendation from Just Dogs. Mark and his Wife Mandy used to walk our dogs Daisy and Sam and they are true dog lovers and our dogs adore them. Mark has continued to pursue his qualifications in dog training and is now a very reputable dog trainer who has helped out a number of our customers using positive training methods. |

Pawblems Solved is run by George Paparkis (he is also the Behaviourist for the Dogs Trust in Glasgow. George runs classes, does 1 - 2 -1 sessions and often arranges very useful workshops (including those on Clicker Training and dealing with Reactive Dogs). We have attended one of George's workshops and were very impressed. George is based on the West Coast but can travel and some of his events are based at the Dogs Trust in Glasgow so easily accessible from the M8. |
Dog Groomers
We are also often asked for recommendations for Dog Groomers. This tends to be a very personal choice and what one person likes in a dog groomer, another may prefer something else. Locally, however, there are a couple of Groomers who are frequently recommended so we have included their details below.
|
Grooming Marvellous run by Ailsa Kidd
64 Cumberland Street, Edinburgh, Midlothian, EH3 6RE This is the closest Groomers to the shop and a number of our customers use Ailsa (including Maria from Just Dogs!). Ailsa tends to be very busy so make sure you book in advance |
|
Doggie Style
153 Broughton Road, Edinburgh, EH7 4JJ The Guys from Doggie Style are very well established but as a result are very busy and very advanced booking is required |
VETS
Another frequent request is details of local Vets. We have pulled together a list of frequently used/recommended Vets in the area.
|
Abercorn Veterinary Clinic 82, Raeburn Place, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH4 1HH Tel: 0131 332 9207 The Stockbridge Practice has a good reputation but please do take note of their restricted opening hours (they do have a practice in Portobello too which has longer opening hours) |
|
99 Dundas Street, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH3 6SD 0131 557 1819 Another Practice that is used by a number of our customers and they have very kindly helped us out when we have required microchip checks on lost dogs that have been handed in to the shop! |
|
Bankton Square, Murieston, Livingston 01506 461462 I know this is a West Lothian based Practice but I felt it only right to include my own personal recommendation. We have been with the Lamond Practice for many years now and highly recommend them. |
Doggy Friendly Places/Accommodation
Another request we often get is where are the doggy friendly places around the Stockbridge area. Again we have compiled a list of the places we know of/have tried/ have had recommended. This list will be added to regularly and any suggestions are more than welcome. We have also added some doggy friendly places to holiday too (obviously not in the Stockbridge area!)
|
Patisserie Florentin
5 Northwest Circus Place, Edinburgh, EH3 6ST A great place to stop for a coffee or quick breakfast, lunch or light snack. They invite dogs in and also have a few tables outside if it is sunny day (if we ever get one in Scotland!?) |
|
47-49 Deanhaugh Street, Edinburgh EH4 1LR 0131 343 1735 This is a favourite of ours. Nice and comfortable atmosphere with comfort food bar meals and a bowl of water for your four legged friends - just over the road from the shop! |
|
16-18 Hamilton Place, Edinburgh, EH3 5AU Dogs get a warm welcome in Hamiltons Bar (but they are only allowed in the lower part of the Bar and not up in the Mezzanine. |

This is one of our favourite Rescues. Sylvia, Bill and their team are an inspiration and simply tireless in their work to save and rehome as many dogs as possible. They are careful to rehome to good homes and many of their dogs stay in foster homes whilst awaiting their forever homes. We would encourage you to read more about their work and if you ever have any unwanted doggy items we are happy to take these to pass on to Many Tears. |
|
Run by Celia and Jimmy this is another fantastic rescue that we try to support whenever we can! They are a branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust. JK Rowling has one of her rescue dogs from here! |
