Another doggy friendly holiday recommendations
05 Mar 2009
We continue to get a great response to our "Doggy Friendly Holiday Recommendations". One of our customers, Kelly has provided us with another recommendation.
"Right on the banks of the Caledonian Canal, overlooking the Ben Nevis Range and 3 miles outside Fort William and 2 miles from Neptunes Staircase. Fantastic location, excellent facilities, lovely friendly people. We stayed in a self catering lodge which was fully equipped - kitchen, bathroom etc. Dogs welcome and the walks in the area are second to none! Loads to do nearby. They also have larger lodges and cottages for families/groups. Highly recommend!"
Recommended Training in the Dundee area

One of our customers has highly recommended Kenny Spottiswoode for agility and obedience training for dog owners living around the Dundee area.

No Go for Grapes!
07 Dec 2008
One of our customers let us know about a near miss their dog Harry had recently. Harry is a 40kg Rottie and he managed to climb onto the kitchen counter to devour a 1kg bag of sultanas. Many of you may already be aware that grapes (and sultanas and raisins) are toxic to dogs and can cause renal failure which can be fatal. Harry's owners rushed him to the Vet, where he had to have his stomach pumped and he has, luckily, made a full recovery (despite having a dicky tummy for a couple of days) because it ws caught in time.
Harry's owner asked us to spread the word as not everyone knows about the effect that Grapes can have on our canine friends. We have also attached a pdf article from the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Raisin Article
Don't forget to add your comments if you have had any similar experiences and want to spread the word!

Another Dog Friendly Holiday Recommendation
13 Aug 2008
We had a great response to our last post regarding doggy friendly holiday recommendations so we thought you may like another one.
We had a fantastic stay at the Glencoe cottages at Torren, Glencoe. Very doggy friendly (we had two cottages booked and 5 dogs with us!). It is a really great location for a "doggy" holiday. There are 3 cottages located together and each cottage can accomodate 6 - 8 people. In peak season they can only be booked out for the week but in low season long weekends are possible. The cottages are set amongst the owners 50 acres of private ground (mostly forested) and are five minutes from the private Torren Loch. The ground are fenced off so it offers great space to let your dog off lead worry free. The photo below shows the view to Torren Loch from the hills on the other side of the Glen from the cottages (this location was the spot for Hagrid's Hut in the Harry Potter Movie!). The cottages are also just 10 - 15 minutes walk to the Clachaig Inn - the famous Pub in Glencoe that serves great pub grub and allows dogs!
There is lots to do around the Glencoe area. Obviously there is lots of great Hill Walking (make sure you treat your dogs for ticks or take a tick remover!). If you feel more adventurous we would recommend getting in touch with Vertical Descents and going for a Canyoning Trip down the Inchfree Falls (near Fort William). Not for the faint hearted!! The falls are pictured in the photo below (featuring lots of our family including the resident dogs - unfortunately Sam and Charlie the Springer decided they didn't want to have their photo taken and are looking for cuddles instead!) and as you can see you can also do a lovely walk with the dogs in the area.
