No Go for Grapes!
07 Dec 2008
One of our customers let us know about a near miss their dog Harry had recently. Harry is a 40kg Rottie and he managed to climb onto the kitchen counter to devour a 1kg bag of sultanas. Many of you may already be aware that grapes (and sultanas and raisins) are toxic to dogs and can cause renal failure which can be fatal. Harry's owners rushed him to the Vet, where he had to have his stomach pumped and he has, luckily, made a full recovery (despite having a dicky tummy for a couple of days) because it ws caught in time.
Harry's owner asked us to spread the word as not everyone knows about the effect that Grapes can have on our canine friends. We have also attached a pdf article from the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Raisin Article

Hi,
Thanks for the info on this. It wasn't a problem I was aware of and I don't think most people would feed dogs grapes or raisins in quantity - but it's the situations such as described here where the dog gets to a packet of fruit that are the concern.

Just adding a couple of further items:
A good item here (also discusses other problem foods):

Also try google using: dogs grapes raisins for a lot more info.
Cheers
